One of the best ways to mix up your home work out is to include an activity that allows you to get out there, while still exercising. Cycling is a fantastic option as it’s a good cardio exercise and strengthens your leg muscles.

Even better, cycling is very versatile. You can purely cycle for exercise, but it’s always a great way to commute to work without damaging the environment. It also gives you a chance to explore your surroundings, you never know what you might find. Here are some tips to get started

  1. Find the Right Bike

The first step on your cycling journey is to find the right bike for your needs. Yes, you can just walk into a bicycle shop and grab the first bike you see, but that isn’t the best idea. Ask yourself some questions, such as:

  • Where are you likely to be cycling? 
  • Will you be on roads or a trail? 
  • Is the area flat or hilly? 
  • How experienced are you? 
  • What’s your budget?

These will all inform the type of bike that you need. For example, you may want to go for either a mountain bike for exploring, a road bike for commuting or something that can tackle both. If in doubt, ask someone for a recommendation. 

  1. Get the Proper Equipment

As well as the bike, you need to be properly equipped for safe and enjoyable cycling. The most obvious piece of gear has to be the cycling helmet. If you fall off your bike, your helmet can easily save your life, it’s as simple as that.
