How to manage your time more effectively & make it work for you

Anybody with a full-time career knows that it can sometimes be difficult to get things done outside of it! During the week, you could have relatively little free time, and when you do you need to make sure you are getting enough rest and relaxation in. Coupled with that is many places close after 5pm. While getting an emergency dentist or something similar is possible, it could be more difficult to work in your other appointments. You might think that you’d need to wait until the weekend to get all of those extra things done. That’s an option for some things, but not everything (plus, weekends should have some much needed chill time right?!). Know How Much Available Time You Have

Generally, your job will take up your 9 to 5, Monday to Friday. On paper, that means that all the time you have outside of that is ‘free time.’ In real life, however, that isn’t the case. You’ll have multiple other commitments, such as your children and friends, alongside needing to sleep and take care of yourself! Sitting down and figuring out exactly how much free time you have is vital. That way, you can determine when you have the time to get specific things done. That should help you get things done outside of work more manageable.

Batch Schedule Your Days

Planning out your week is an effective option for getting things done. When you do this, try to batch schedule your days. This involves doing similar tasks together on specific days. If you and your children all need haircuts, for example, get them done on the same day. You could even extend this to cooking. If you batch cook several days’ worth of dinners at once, you can freeze them off and reheat as necessary. While this would mean spending a lot of time on it on a specific day, you could save much more during the week. It’ll also mean that you’ll simply need to reheat your dinner when you’re busy.

Make Sure You Can Focus

One thing stopping many people from getting things done is their focus. During the week, you’ll need a lot of this, especially for your job. That could make it more challenging to focus on doing things outside of work. You’ll need to overcome this. You might think that multitasking would be an option. If you go that route, you may not be able to focus on either, so they’ll take longer to do. To avoid that, focus on one task at a time. It should be much easier to get them done quickly, so you can get them out of the way.

Trying to fit everything into your week as well as some down time (a non-negotiable!) can be tricky. You can often feel stressed, especially if it’s something important that needs to be done. You’ll need to attend appointments, get your shopping done, and much more.
