One of the biggest challenges that we’re going to face as the world starts coming out of lockdown is the fact that our old routines seem like very distant memories. If you used to be fit and active before the lockdown, then it might be difficult to get back into the same mood and build up the motivation you had to get fit, work out, and build a healthier body. As the world comes out of lockdown, many of us will struggle to work back to those routines and return to a sense of normality. Most of the world has been stuck in lockdown for around 18 months or more, making this lockdown lifestyle seem like the new normal. So to help you out, we’ve put together some helpful tips that will assist you in getting back to your previous fitness levels as the world starts to open up again.
Going back to your old ways with your diet and routine
Nobody can blame you if you’ve started to lose track of your previous ways in terms of your diet and workout routine. The lockdown hit many of us hard. It’s demotivated many of us and it’s understandable if you’re finding it hard to recover the motivation that you had before.
Here are a couple of ways to help you slowly get back into your old routine:
- Start slow and work your way up. Don’t expect to immediately return to your old ways. It takes a lot of time and commitment to get back into your old routine. Start by following some simple health tips to build up that motivation then slowly work your way up so that you remember what it feels like to live a healthy lifestyle with plenty of good nutrition and regular exercise.
- Don’t be afraid to mix things up. A lot of people find it difficult to return to their old routine because they want to do something different. As such, it’s perfectly fine to try something new. Eat different kinds of food, try different exercises, and invest in some workout equipment if you have to. You don’t need to stick to your previous routines if you’re eager to try something else!
- Try working out with your friends and family members. Working out in a group is a lot more fun than working out alone and you’d be surprised at how many health tips you can pick up from other people. It’s a fantastic way to motivate each other and it can also be a great excuse to finally see each other again after so long.
- Don’t focus too much on your past goals and achievements. Set new goals that you can reach and work towards them. Set new challenges if you want to, and lower your expectations so you can gradually build towards your previous fitness levels. If you push yourself too hard right now, then you’re just going to end up facing issues.
By following these tips, you’ll find that it’s fairly easy to work back to your previous routine. It takes a lot of time and energy, but it’s going to be worth it in the end.
Don’t rely on those quick detox packs from your local supermarket or drugstore
If you’re looking for a quick way to detox your body and flush out those bad toxins, then the last thing you want to do is rely on those one-day detox kits that you can find in drugstores. Not only are they expensive, but they don’t actually work.
This is because detoxification is something that your body naturally does thanks to our urinary system. Our organs filter the bad toxins from our body and they eventually leave our body in the form of urine and stools. You can’t really speed this process up, but you can assist it by adopting a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water.
Companies like DetoxStuff offer real detox kits that can work in a day, but they’re not designed to flush out the toxins from your body. Instead, their purpose is to mask the toxins in your body. There are many reasons for doing this, such as if you have a drug or alcohol test the following morning that you want to pass with 100% certainty.
This is a little different to regular detoxification which essentially means adopting a healthier diet so that your body has an easier time getting rid of toxins. So if you’re concerned about the bad habits you’ve built up during the lockdown, don’t be! Don’t rely on those drugstore detox kits to help you. Instead, focus on healthy sources of nutrition and drink plenty of water to help cleanse your system.
Check reopening times for local gyms and workout sessions
If you were a regular at your local gym or attended workout sessions with your local community, then it’s a good idea to check when those places will be open again. Since lockdowns around the world are starting to end, it’s worth checking when your usual sessions will be open again. You may notice huge numbers of people flocking back to the gym now that lockdowns are ending, but it’s still a good idea to get outside and meet with your friends again to go on a workout together.
However, some gyms may operate a little differently as part of post-COVID measures. For example, some establishments may ask you to continue wearing a mask, while others might ask you to maintain social distancing measures by keeping machines further apart. This can remind you of the pandemic and maybe a little disheartening or even cause anxiety, but it’s just a safety measure that will likely go away after a few weeks or even days.
Just remember that people might still be a little cautious if they haven’t had their vaccine yet. As such, you’ll want to maintain those rules that took place during the lockdown for just a little bit longer.
