6 tips to get your career back on track

There is a lot going on in the world at the moment as we find ourselves in a completely new way of life for the last couple of months, and for some to come. It can be a challenge to stay motivated on the daily, especially if you have had an unexpected career change or simply have just lost your mojo! SO, your career is important to you. It is a priority in your life. When you’re an ambitious person, you may always be dreaming about what you want to achieve. And it can be exciting, however…there can be times where you feel like you’re not on track or maybe you’re feeling a little fear? This is completely normal and you are definitely not alone here! No matter where you are right now in the current situation, different things CAN and DO happen in your life (both in and outside of your control) that make you feel a bit off track or lost. It happens. BUT, you won’t just want to settle for that. Instead, you’ll want to make the change you need for your career to turn things around. Let’s dive into five options to get some inspiration going and help you to work out where you need to go next!

Set Goals
First up, one of the best things that you can do for your career is to set goals. If you know that you want to be able to get to a certain place, then setting goals for yourself is a must! When you’re a lot clearer with yourself about what you want you to achieve and why, you will find that you can then start to actually MAKE IT HAPPEN. From there, you can create a plan to move forward, put it into action to progress to where you want to be.

Master Your Marketing
Take a minute to consider how you’re marketing yourself. That saying ‘dress for the job you want, not have’ kind of puts it in a nutshell! But clearly it’s not about just how you dress. Building a professional profile, having a portfolio, ensuring you have the skills, experience and knowledge you need while utilising resources like Linkedin are all important way to ensure you are talking the talk but also walking the walk!

Present professionally
Sometimes, you’re not quite ready to do the things that you want to do. This can especially be the case when you run your own business. But, you have to act it and OWN IT! It will work wonders for your confidence levels once you start to make that progress. Presenting professionally in everything your business does is key, even the little things like having an office address from somewhere like Virtual Reception, and branding yourself professionally is really important.

Get some help
When it comes to getting your career back on track there is no shame in getting some help. In fact, you will find that there are a myriad of specialists out there that can assist you including Disability Employment Services that can help put workplace modifications in place that will allow you to reach your full potential in your career. There are even employment agencies that cater solely to working mothers and support you while balancing your career and your home life. Just remember that while it is your career, you do have to do everything alone!

Build Your Brand
Another thing that is important in the modern landscape is building your brand. Think of it like ‘what qualities, skills and attributes do I want associated with my professional profile?’ Building and nurturing your own personal profile really does work positively to get recognition in your chosen field. It may also open up the right doors and help you get noticed for the opportunity that could be perfect for you!

Connect With Others
Finally, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re starting to network where you can. When it comes to cultivating your career or building your business, putting yourself out there is such an important aspect, which means creating and nurturing a strong network that is right for you. If you’re communicating with others in your industry, or working with other brands, it’s a great way to build your network. You will find that this could lead to different opportunities over time as well.

We would love to hear from you, what are some tips for getting back on track?

  1. My sister would like to start a career in business, which is why she’s thinking of working with the best coach. Well, maybe you’re also right that she should start building her Linkedin profile too. Thank you for sharing here as well the importance of branding herself.
