How to switch to ethical self care

Every day new ethical brands are stepping up to provide a wider range of simple solutions for our wellness practices. From vegan cosmetics to organic CBD, whatever your self care needs may be, you can make the switch to making them ethical, plus taking into account the self care that doesn’t require any products at all. With all that in mind, here are some tips to help you take good care of yourself without compromising your own personal ethics and being kinder to our planet.

Spend time in nature

Spending time in nature is free, and it is actually one of the most effective forms of self care there is. Apart from the benefits of breathing in fresh air on your mind and body, time spent in nature has been proven to lower stress levels, boost energy and creativity, lower blood pressure, and much more besides, If you’re feeling down, head out to the nearest beauty spot and simply breathe it all in.

Overhaul Youtube beauty products

A lot of beauty products contain parabens and other chemicals or ingredients which can be harmful to the body and the earth. One simple thing you can do to change this is to, each time you run out of a product, switch it for a more ethical one. You could switch your current facemask for an all-natural avocado-based one, your favorite lipstick for a vegan and cruelty-free version, or your moisturizer for a more natural aloe Vera gel – there are so many options and possibilities to choose from.

Give up single use

There’s no denying that reusable wipes, tampons, pads, and Q-tips are a really convenient part of any self care regime, but they can be very detrimental for the planet. That’s why you should consider switching them for reusable options, which may require a little more effort on your part, but they last longer, and therefore save you money plus make you feel great because you’ll be doing your part for the planet.

Introduce meditation

There are fewer things more ethical than learning to meditate. Not only can it help you to transform your own mind so that you can enjoy life more, stress less, and think more deeply, but it will also help you to relate more kindly to the people around you, especially if you learn lovingkindness meditation.

Give yourself a break

Self care is about looking after yourself, not punishing yourself, so don’t beat yourself up if your regime isn’t 100 percent ethically perfect at the moment. Start by making small changes as and when you are able to, and eventually, you’ll be exactly where you want to be, feeling amazing and having a truly ethical self care routine.
