A brand new year is often a time to assess our health and well being and you may have made some all important resolutions around your nutrition, exercise and implementing more healthy habits that are sustainable. Many of us think about improving our health at this time of the year after the holidays when it is time to get back into a more balanced routine. Sometimes however, many of these resolutions get broken early into the year because sometimes in our quest to live more healthily, we tend to overcomplicate things. In reality, it’s often the smaller changes and improvements that have the most significant impact on our health! With that in mind, here are five easy things that you can do to improve your health in 2020…
Appointments
When was the last time you visited the dentist? Or the optometrist? Have you ever had your ears tested? Or been to the doctors when you don’t feel unwell, just for a general check up? Most of us tend to only make appointments for check ups when we are not feeling our best, but getting a dental checkup, an eye test and an essential health check up could help you to spot problems early, protecting your health long term.
Take More Steps
Walking more is one of the easiest ways to burn more calories, tone your muscles, increase your stamina, and improve your heart health. For most of us, it’s entirely possible! Commit to walking more and consider monitoring your steps to help you to keep track. Then, start making small changes like walking to work, or getting off the bus earlier, and going for a short walk after dinner each day.
Drink More Water
Drinking water is another easy way to boost your health. Drink more water, and you’ll drink less fizzy drinks, caffeine, and alcohol. You’ll find it easier to maintain a healthy weight, and your body will be well hydrated!

Eat Mindfully
Eating a healthy diet is a wonderful way to boost your health (but it’s not always easy). Sometimes, the best way to do it is to eat more mindfully. Think about what you are eating, when and why. Enjoy the flavors and sensations, take your time, and stop when you are full.

Get into Healthy Sleep Habits
Sometimes even when we go to bed early and feel like we should have had enough sleep, we’re tired, sluggish, and struggling to stay awake in the afternoon. This can be because our sleep habits need a makeover and while we are in bed for enough hours, our quality of sleep is poor. Healthy sleep habits can mean that you always feel refreshed, even on those days when you’ve perhaps had a little less sleep than you might like. When you have healthy sleep habits, you are more likely to maintain a healthy weight and exercise. It might mean that your mood is stabilized and that you feel more alert, energetic, and even confident! Good sleep habits could improve your performance at work and your relationships. Not to mention the countless benefits good sleep can have on your health. Good habits are the basis of a healthy sleep routine. Things like avoiding caffeine late at night, eating an early dinner, leaving your phone in another room, and going to bed and waking up at the same time every day can be a big help.
